Squealer

Last night I was comfortably curled up on the couch while Sam and Mandy played on the floor with that tiny person. Sam picked her up and was carrying her around before he started the bedtime routine. He brought her over to see me, so I moved a little further away. I don’t really like to be bothered by Stella.  Mandy moved to intercept them, so I stayed where I was, but that tiny person leaned toward me and squealed. I startled and ran away, and that made her laugh at me! What made it worse was then Sam and Mandy laughed too! I fail to see what was so funny. Stella made a strange sound at me; I ran away; she laughs. It doesn’t seem funny to me.  I was embarrassed. Mandy allowed me to come snuggle her on the floor and she stopped laughing. She told me I was a sweet kitty and scratched my head. I enjoyed her snuggles but they didn’t last long enough. It wasn’t long before Mandy had to take care of that tiny person again.

Soft Kitty, Warm Kitty---that's not me!

So Peyton has become a traitor--he has caved to the tiny bundle of clucks, squeals, and stinky diapers. Not only does he allow Mandy to bring that tiny person close so she can touch him, but now he goes and seeks her out! Stella was playing on the floor with Mandy and Peyton interrupted so he could join in on all the fun. He swished his tail in Stella’s face and she squealed and tried to grab it. Peyton didn’t care and let her grab his beautiful tail! Mandy kept her from putting it in her mouth, but I doubt Peyton would have minded.

Then yesterday we were all outside, enjoying the beautiful warm weather when Peyton went to love Mandy. Of course she was holding that tiny person again. Mandy knelt down and Stella grabbed at Peyton again. He didn’t flinch away or even try to avoid her touches. Instead Mandy put Stella on Peyton’s back and he pranced around like a proud horse! Disgusting! Disgraceful! We are cats not pack-mules! Meow!

If I want any attention in this house I have to seek Mandy out, but I’ll only seek her out when that tiny person won’t bother us. After Mandy put her in bed last night I joined Mandy on the couch and snuggled her for a while. Then I helped her make Sam’s lunch and clean the kitchen. That’s all the time with Mandy I can enjoy anymore. I’m not sure what I think about this. Perhaps that tiny person isn’t so bad if Peyton will accept her, but she is so noisy and rough. I guess it gives me something to think about.

Nap Interrupted

I was peacefully dozing on the cat-couch yesterday when Mandy walked by holding Stella. She had just finished eating and Mandy was just walking around with her when they sat down on the cat-couch with me. I lazily rolled over to look at Mandy to see what she had in mind with that little person in her arms. Stella was all eyes and she was staring at me. Very slowly Mandy leaned Stella closer to me, and Stella reached her arms out toward me. She grabbed my fur and just held it. Mandy told her to be gentle and watched her carefully. I rolled over onto my back so my tummy was up, and Stella reached for my tummy. Mandy used extra precautions to make sure Stella was gentle as she reached for my tummy. I let that little person rub my tummy. She really did not rub so much as grab a hold of my fur and squawk at me, but I felt as though I preformed a kind act—I tolerated her touches for Mandy’s sake. After a while, Stella started getting a little too excited for my taste and Mandy took her into the other room so I could finish my nap. Then Mandy brought me some treats and told me I was a kind and loving cat. Sometimes a good deed does go unpunished.

Rainy Days

The last few days have been rather wet, and I have been cooped up in this house like a caged lion. I show Mandy my annoyance at such treatment by pacing back and forth in front of the door. Yesterday afternoon, Mandy finally gave into my wild-animal behavior and opened the door for me. I ran outside so fast, I made the chair spin, and left a gust of wind in my place. I almost knocked Mandy over in my eagerness to escape this indoor prison! I have tried showing Mandy how much I want to be let outside this morning, but she is ignoring me. I have cried, pleaded, sang, demanded and I am still inside. While Mandy was feeding Stella both Elway and I raced all over the house like wild animals. Mandy said we sounded like wilder beasts, but if she would let us outside, we would not be forced to play inside in such a manner.

When ajulie was here, she opened the door for us whenever we asked. Having company really is not so inconvenient to our lives, because they always open the door for us—sometimes even when Mandy says no. All I have to do is turn my big kitten eyes on them. Mandy and Sam call it my Puss-In-Boots look. I am unsure why they call my cute face this strange name, but to be compared to the mighty Puss-In-Boots is a high praise, in my book. Maybe we will have more company soon so they can open the door for me, whenever I please. Or maybe it will warm up again so Mandy will just leave the door open.

Yesterday Mandy was filling a bucket up with water. I was trying to assist in the manner when the water snake fell out of the bucket and started squirting water everywhere! I raced back in the house, and stayed covered until Mandy caught the wild snake and forced it back in the bucket. There was water everywhere, but somehow Mandy managed to stay dry.

I have slipped out into the man-eating room a few times now. I enjoy going out there, even if Mandy and Sam try to keep me in the house. There are so many places to hide out there, and it is such an adventure. When I came back in the other night, I had a dust on my whiskers and it was lovely! What a fun adventure.

We have been on the lookout for Sunshine, but we have not seen her. Mandy believes she has been found, because the fliers that were posted all over the subdivision are gone. Hopefully Sunshine is back at home and safe with her family.

Excitement in the air!

Something is going to happen today, I can feel it in my bones. Meow! Actually, Mandy is bubbling with excitement, so that can only mean one thing—someone is coming to visit. Mandy keeps telling Stella Auntie Julie is coming, so that must be the cause for all this excitement. Someone is coming to disrupt my life and schedule, but I know ajulie, so I will tolerate this for Mandy’s sake.

There is some sad news to report. A family that lives nearby has lost their kitty, Sunshine. She is a small orange tabby, like me. Ok, well I’m not small, but you know what I mean. Anyway, she has run away from home, and they are desperately looking for her. They even stopped by our house yesterday to see if we’d seen her. Mandy has a picture of Sunshine and she is a very pretty little thing. I only hope we can help find her. Peyton and I have been calling for her, and will continue to do so today, if we can go outside. I know when I ran away from home I was scared and alone, I can only imagine what poor Sunshine must be feeling. I hope we can help find her soon.

It has been so lovely outside, and Mandy has had the windows and doors open all day. We have stayed outside until we are finally so used to it, we can come back inside to nap. For a while, Peyton was taking his nap outside, but now that he is used to the open doors again, he’s come back into his bed.

Well, I think I will go chase Peyton.

Do Not Disturb!

All the joy has left the house--or so it seems to this lonely cat. All we ever hear is “Kitties! Be quiet!” or “Do not wake up the baby!” or something similar. Every morning I like to greet the world with a song, and do you know what I hear? “Peyton, do not wake the baby!” At night when I sing my good night song, I hear the same thing. I would think that Stella would like my songs. Mandy sings to her; Stella talks and sings; I think I should be able to talk and sing. Mandy still lets me sing when I am with her, just not in the bedroom when that tiny thing is sleeping. But I think I should be able to sing wherever, whenever and to whomever I like.

Mandy fed Stella this morning, and now she is playing in her bed. She is talking and wants some attention, I think. Normally she goes back sleep, but this morning she is flopping around in that bed of hers like a fish out of water. Silly girl.

Mandy has been letting us play outside, because it has been so nice. I love to play outside, but that tiny person has been invading my space outside too. Is there no place that is sacred to a kitty? Mandy brings that tiny person outside and they walk around the big tub. Sometimes Mandy just sits and lets the tiny thing look around. Occasionally I will sit with them, and point out my favorite things to Stella. She likes to watch me talk and it amuses me to entertain her, when she is in the right mood.

I keep asking to go outside but Mandy says it is wet this morning. She says if it clears up I can go out, but I watched the weather this morning and it may rain all day and for a few days! Sad. I am going to go pout in my bed and watch the sprinkles of rain splash in the big tub.

Oh look! Red Lightening Bug! I will plan my attack on him instead.
